Math
We will be using Scott Foresman enVision math this year for math instruction. Math instruction will take place each day and your child will have homework from his/her math workbook each night. Please look for more information about skills taught using the math tab. Math skills will be tested each week on Friday.
In order to help your child succeed in second grade math, we request that they memorize addition and subtraction facts to 20. We would like them to have these facts memorized by Christmas so that when we begin to teach two-digit addition and subtraction with regrouping, students are more successful. We will start practicing our facts each week and students will have timed tests once a week to evaluate their progress. These tests will NOT be graded, but they will be sent home so you know how they are doing with memorization. An easy way to help your child is to go buy a set of flashcards to use at home. You can find them at any discount store (Wal-mart, Target, Dollar Tree, etc.) and they will be invaluable in helping your child learn his/her math facts.
There are also some great apps for Smartphones that will help your child. Check back for an updated list of apps you can download on your phone or iPad.
