It's official!  We have started the countdown to the END OF THE YEAR!  Wednesday marked the beginning of our ABC Countdown and we are on our way to celebrating the last 26 days of second grade.  I can't believe it's already time to send these wonderful students on up to THIRD grade! 

Today has been a day FULL of surprises... It was "C" day... Camouflage and Cartoons... well, guess who came to visit for the day?  The Robertson Family from Duck Dynasty!  The second grade teachers brought the Quack Pack to Aiken Elementary!

Wonder what else will happen as we bring this school year to a close??  "D" is Disco Day... GET DOWN AND BOOGIE!

What an AWESOME day celebrating all our SUPER POWERS!  Today was Super Hero Day in second grade and boy, did we have FUN!  Check out all our Super Heroes... they were FANTASTIC!

I can not believe it is already January!  Almost half our year has FLOWN by!  We are working our way back into the "second grade groove" after having two fabulous weeks off for Winter Break!

This week we will be working on our New Year's Resolutions... what can YOU do better in 2013?  We will also be starting Topic 9 in Math... this is a tricky topic as we will be subtracting two-digit numbers with regrouping.  Check the Topic 9 Math page for a poem to help you remember what to do!

NEEDED:  We need tissues and hand sanitizer!  If you are able to send in a box of tissues or a bottle of hand sanitizer, it would be greatly appreciated!

Today was a very interesting day in Room 2D... our classroom was transformed into a hospital and we all became Surgeons!  We found all the tools we needed, put on gloves and face masks, and went to work performing surgery on some words that needed our help to become contractions!  We had to cut out the letters we didn't need, and then stitch the words back together again, being sure to add a band aid to cover up the scar we created when cutting with our scalpels.  What a FUN learning experience!  I hope you heard ALL about it... if not, check out the pictures to see just how much FUN we had!

I can NOT believe it's already November!  The Second Nine weeks has gotten off to a BUSY start... we started off the week learning about Election Day and we all cast our ballots for our favorite class snack... popcorn or chips!  We learned a lot about the election process and will be convincing our classmates why we would make good Class Presidents later on this week!

In math we have started Topic 6, Adding two-digit Numbers.  Check out the Topic 6 page for lots of great games to practice these new skills!

This week in reading we will learn all about contractions!  New websites have been added under the Reading tab to help you practice making contractions.

Happy Election Day!

It's been a while since I posted about what we have been up to... let's just say life in second grade is a bit hectic and crazy!  We've been learning so much and doing so many different things that time has FLOWN by and we are now at the end of the first nine weeks!  They always say time flies when you are having fun... in this case, it's TRUE!

Please check the additions made to the website... spelling words will be kept current starting this week and Math Topic 17 has been added along with more games and activities to practice skills for Place Value.  The Reading tab also includes new and updated links to practice the skills we are working on this week; friendly letters, story elements, and prefixes and suffixes.  Next up... app updates so you can upload to your Ipad or Iphone to help your child practice, practice, practice!

This week will also begin second grade standardized testing... we will be testing on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of this week.  Please make sure your child gets a GOOD night's sleep, a HEALTHY breakfast and arrives to school ON TIME these days!  Encourage them to try their best and make you proud! 

What's in store for next week?  Parent/Teacher conferences and our FIRST FIELD TRIP!  It's gonna be a busy couple of weeks... jump on and hang on because it's going FAST!

Welcome to Second Grade and a Brand New Year!  I am looking forward to a wonderful year full of excitement and learning.  It was GREAT to meet so many smiling faces at Registration Day.  Don't forget to read your card on Sunday night right before you go to bed... I can't wait to see you bright and early on Monday morning!
